Today I want to talk about how your business could be viewed in the market.
Do You Have A Brand Or A Bland?
Let me explain… I think as small business owners we spend a lot of time thinking about pleasing every customer and not offending anybody. Really why not – our customers are our livelihood!
However that kind of thinking goes back to your reputation. When you started your business all that you had was your desire to help your customers and so you built your business on your personal integrity and your good name.
So I’ll be contrarian and say that if you’re not annoying or turning off some of your prospects, you’re not building a strong brand.
Why? Because for you it’s a lot more fun to work with people who agree with you and value what you do and are willing to pay for it! Anything less is like pushing rope uphill.
So I’m going to keep it short and here are some bullet points for you to think about:
- Do you really put your personal stamp on your business or are you imitating some kind of vague industry standard?
- Do your customers know what you stand for and what you are against?
- Do you make interactions with your business memorable?
- Does your business attract the kind people that you want to do business with or does it attract less than desirable customers?
Middle-of-the-road doesn’t make for leaps and bounds in growing your business however what does is a tribe of raving fans that spread the word far and wide about how great you and your business are!
